It can be very disenheartening living in this world sometimes, a world that is more about escape than finding solutions. Consider the fact more people are outrraged about a recasting for a Twilight film than what’s going on in Zimbabwe, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Myanmar or Burkina Faso. Sometimes I wonder how much energy is wasted into things that won’t change things for more people, but instead are used to fulfill selfish and petty indulgences. I am not saying I am above this at times, I certainly have my own tastes and material desires. What I am saying however is that we need to be more aware of it or be more interested in becoming involved so we care more.
I’ve seen too much not to care anymore and this journey began a long time ago, back when I was in classes with Bosnian refugees in elementary school. I’ve heard the stories of a Zimbabwean refugee and a North Korean defector. I’ve been to the DMZ and been a few feet regimes to ever exist, thanks to UN buildings.
I can’t stay silent about this anymore. I need to do more; you need to do more; we all need to do more. We have more access to information than ever before, but all I see is people burrowing their heads into the sand even further.
